ARUTZ
SHEVA
MSNBC
to Cancel Alan Keyes
June 19, 2002
The MSNBC Cable network channel has decided to pull its popular
news magazine "Making Sense," hosted by Alan Keyes,
out of its primetime slot - but Keyes says "all or nothing."
WorldNetDaily.com reports that the network told Keyes his show
would be moved up several hours to an afternoon time slot, industry
rumours are that Keyes' contract assures him of a slot between
7-11 pm. Barring last-minute developments, it now appears that
Keyes will be leaving the network altogether.
Keyes, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations
Social and Economic Council, is a staunch supporter of Israel,
and many believe that MSNBC was merely giving in to a recent
pressure campaign launched by Arab activists to have Keyes pulled
off the air. MSNBC denies the allegations.
A widely-disseminated Arab petition accuses Keyes
of "promoting his Zionist-biased views and ideologies on
national TV." In response, the Mesora.org website
has initiated a petition urging the network not to succumb to
Arab pressure, and to keep Keyes in his prime time slot.
Keyes has often blasted the PLO
on air for its anti-Israel terror campaign. This past Monday
night, Keyes aired footage from official Palestinian Authority
television showing Yasser Arafat calling for the destruction
of the Jewish people and the annihilation of Israel. The videos
also document how the PA uses its media as a propaganda tool
to encourage Arab children to wage "jihad" against
Israelis.
Excerpts from Keyes'
statements during that Monday night show: [On
Israel's security fence] "People get all upset with [the
Israelis] when they move across into Palestinian areas to try
to deal with the attacks and the murderous assaults against Israeli
civilians. So, in the face of that kind of reaction, they think,
well, why don't we put up a barrier to keep the attackers out?
And they [the Arabs] say, well, that's terrible, you can't put
up barriers. Well, what do you do then? I guess it is now going
to be considered a prerequisite of peace for Israelis to just
sit there and die?" [After showing footage
of Palestinian children talking about their desire to be suicide
bombers] "If a culture of terroristic violence has been
encouraged all the way down deep into the hearts of very young
children, then obviously it's going to require a large effort
to turn that around over the course of what could be many years
[Speaking to Hussein Ibish, of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination
Committee] How can you tell me that the Israelis should trust
the Palestinian Authority [when] through the culture of Palestinian
Authority television, they are fomenting and inoculating the
very attitudes that lead to this?"
