Mesora: There was not yet "religion" at that point, not until Sinai. God's original plan seemed to have been that man and woman simply exist and study the physical world, as well as God's actions as He intervenes to perfect people. Mankinds' study of the Divine justice of the Flood of Noah for example would teach further insights into God's justice. Similarly, God also said about Abraham, "shall I keep concealed from Abraham what I shall do (to Sodom)?". Meaning, God felt it necessary to disclose to Abraham His plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for their grave sins. God wanted a man like Abraham, who was "to teach his household after him", to understand and teach to mankind God's ways of justice.

Religion only became an invention of man as idolatry began. In response, God ultimately organized a system of Torah to insulate man's proper behavior.
